MANILA, Philippines — Several local government units have announced the suspension of classes and government work for Tuesday, August 18, 2026, as the southwest monsoon, or habagat, continues to bring unfavorable weather conditions to parts of the country.
Some affected areas have suspended face-to-face classes, while others have shifted learners to alternative modes of learning to ensure that classes can continue despite the weather.
As of the latest announcements, the following areas have declared suspensions:
Metro Manila
Marikina City
Classes suspended at all levels
Covers public and private schools
Pampanga
Sto. Tomas
Face-to-face classes suspended at all levels in public and private schools
Schools will shift to alternative modes of learning
The arrangement will remain in effect until Thursday, August 20
Pangasinan
Binmaley
Classes suspended at all levels in public and private schools
Zambales
Candelaria
Classes suspended at all levels in public and private schools
Masinloc
Classes suspended at all levels in public and private schools
Work in government offices is also suspended
Offices providing essential and emergency services are exempted from the work suspension
Northern Mindanao
Iligan City
Kindergarten to Grade 12, public to private schools, classes from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. only.
Residents, parents, learners, and school personnel are advised to continue monitoring announcements from their respective local government units and schools, as additional suspension notices may be issued depending on prevailing weather conditions.
