Lesson planning is a fundamental responsibility of every teacher in the Philippine basic education system under the Department of Education (DepEd). Through careful planning, teachers can organize content logically, manage time effectively, and provide meaningful learning experiences for their students.
In the DepEd context, lesson planning is not merely a compliance requirement but a professional practice that reflects a teacher’s preparedness and commitment to quality education. A well-prepared lesson plan helps anticipate learners’ needs, possible difficulties, and appropriate strategies to address diverse learning styles and abilities. It allows teachers to select suitable methods, materials, and activities that make lessons more engaging, relevant, and effective.
Grade 6 is a preparatory stage for junior high school, making lesson planning especially important. Teachers need to ensure that lessons review and strengthen foundational skills while gradually introducing more complex tasks. A well-designed lesson plan helps balance review, practice, and enrichment activities.
In line with DepEd goals, lesson planning at this level also promotes learner responsibility and independence. With clear objectives and structured activities, students learn to manage tasks, follow instructions, and reflect on their learning. This prepares them both academically and behaviorally for secondary education.
