In the Philippine basic education system, learning activity sheets (LAS) have become an essential instructional tool, especially under the Department of Education’s thrust toward flexible, inclusive, and learner-centered education. Whether used in face-to-face classes, modular learning, or blended and distance learning, activity sheets serve as guided pathways that translate curriculum standards into concrete, manageable tasks. They help teachers scaffold lessons and help learners practice skills in a structured yet accessible way, ensuring that learning continues regardless of context or constraints.
Grade 3 is a critical stage because learners are expected to shift from “learning to read” to “reading to learn.” Learning activity sheets play a key role in supporting this transition by providing exercises that develop comprehension, vocabulary, and basic analytical skills. In Mathematics and other subjects, activity sheets guide learners through multi-step problems and simple applications of concepts.
Aligned with DepEd standards, these materials help strengthen independent learning skills. Pupils begin to work more confidently on tasks with less direct supervision, using activity sheets as guides. This builds both academic competence and self-discipline, preparing learners for the increasing academic demands of the intermediate grades.
