In the Philippine basic education system, learning activity sheets (LAS) have become an essential instructional tool, especially under the Department of Education’s thrust toward flexible, inclusive, and learner-centered education. Whether used in face-to-face classes, modular learning, or blended and distance learning, activity sheets serve as guided pathways that translate curriculum standards into concrete, manageable tasks. They help teachers scaffold lessons and help learners practice skills in a structured yet accessible way, ensuring that learning continues regardless of context or constraints.
In Grade 1, learning activity sheets become vital tools for strengthening basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills. At this stage, learners transition from emergent literacy to more structured learning, and activity sheets help break down lessons into manageable, guided tasks. They provide opportunities for practice in phonics, simple sentences, and basic operations in a way that supports gradual mastery.
Within DepEd’s curriculum, these materials also help establish good study habits and independence among young learners. By following clear instructions and completing short, focused activities, pupils learn responsibility for their own work. Teachers, in turn, can use the outputs from activity sheets to diagnose learning gaps and provide timely remediation or enrichment.
